Class FAQs

I’ve just had a baby and want to get back in shape. Am I ready to exercise?

Whilst our classes cater for mums to bring along their babies and children, please note this is not specifically a post-natal fitness class and our trainers don’t currently carry a post-natal specialist exercise certification (however it is something we are currently working towards!).

We are fully insured and qualified fitness instructors and are educated in the effects of exercise, pregnancy and birth on womens’ bodies and every effort has been made to adapt exercises to make them generally suitable and safe for post-natal women.

Before taking part you will need to confirm sign off from your 6-week post-natal check with your GP.

If you have any ongoing complications we suggest you consult a specialist.

Is this class for me?

If you are keen to get fit and meet friendly like-minded people, then yes, this class is for you. Everybody is welcome.

What do classes consist of?

Classes are varied to keep you motivated and improving your fitness levels. We will always do a warm up and cool down sections with stretching and mobility exercises, and the main class will always include a cardio section plus toning section targeting all the key areas (legs, bums and tums!). And we like to throw in a bit of boxing as a fun stress reliever!

What are the terms and conditions?

The terms and conditions of the class can be found here. You will be required to sign a copy of these and complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) before you can take part in the class. Please arrive 10 minutes early ahead of your first class to do so.

What should I wear?

Gym trainers are necessary as well as comfortable exercise wear (leggings, shorts, joggers, vests, t-shirts, hoodies, etc) and sports bras are advised for ladies.

What if it rains?

Don’t worry - our classes are inside!

What if my baby cries?

First of all, don’t panic! We have special exercises you can continue to do whilst either holding the baby, wearing a baby carrier or sling, or pushing the pram so that you don’t have to miss out on the class. But also you are free to stop at any time and take as long as you need to settle your baby and join back in when you are ready to do so. It happens, they are babies after all! Most tend to be pretty happy watching their mums and hearing the buzz of noise so come along and give it a go. You won’t know until you try!

I can bring my baby or child, great! But where do they go and what do they do during the class?

We advise that babies and small children stay strapped in buggies/ prams at all times for their own safety and within your range of sight and earshot. Though of course if you wish to go against this advice, that is your choice. However, they remain your responsibility during the class and we will not be liable as a result.

Is there parking available?

Yes there is ample free parking available close by our Southdown venue - at the Co-Op across the road and also limited on-road parking directly outside. Our Batford venue has a private car park. Wahey!

What facilities are available?

There are air-conditioned studios with parking available as well as toilets and baby changing facilities and accessibility ramps for prams and buggies at all of our venues.

How much do the classes cost?

Classes cost £8 drop-in and there’s no joining fee. If you think you will become a regular or if getting hold of cash regularly is a hassle - or to motivate you to stick to it, you choose to block book for the term for £7 per class.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring your own mat, blanket or towel. Apart from this, all fitness equipment is provided to ensure a variety of exercises which will challenge you and keep you motivated. All you need to bring is your gym kit, a bottle of water to stay hydrated and perhaps some toys/ snacks/ milk to keep baby happy in their pram/ buggy so you can make the most of the class.

Fridays 9.30am at The Harpenden Trust Centre

We start promptly at the advertised start time and won’t wait for latecomers, so please arrive in good time.

How long do the classes last?

What if I’m too unfit?

You can never be too unfit to exercise – everyone starts somewhere! Our classes are non-competitive and designed so you can go at your own pace to build up your fitness level safely. In fact, the instructor will offer adaptations to make each and every exercise easier (or harder!) to suit you.

However, if you are physically ill or injured please seek medical advice and visit your GP for clearance to take part in physical activity.

Do I need to book?

No there’s no need to book – just turn up! Classes are pay-as-you-go with no joining fee so just come as and when you feel like it. There is the option to block book with a discount.

How will I know if a class is cancelled?

If a class is cancelled, members will be alerted via our website, social media channels and by a group WhatsApp message for existing members who have opted in to receive this.

What if the class times, class dates and class locations aren’t convenient for me?

If you can’t make our class times, dates or locations, don’t worry!

We offer personal training at a time and location to suit you, and small group sessions (perfect if there’s a couple of you wanting to get fit together!) where you can split the cost between yourselves and hold the class in your own garden, even. Think of it like an Ann Summers party… but with squats!

Please enquire for more details.

And keep checking back as new class times may be added to meet demand in the future.
